The EAC training system

The Curriculum of EAC consists of 13 modules which are covering different areas in the asylum process. The Curriculum is drafted by teams of experts from different EU Member States. With the motto "Knowledge and skills for protection in Europe" the European Asylum Curriculum provides common vocational training for caseworkers, management officials and policy makers working with asylum matters. The courses consist of preparatory self-studies in online e-learning format combined with face-to-face sessions.

The EAC training system is based on four key concepts;

Case based training

To make the EAC courses effective and easy to relate to the participants’ daily work, a lot of real cases and examples from different Member States are used. The cases are used for exercises during the online studies and for discussions, exercises and often role-plays in the face-to-face sessions.

E-learning

The EAC courses are utilizing online self-study tools to enable participants from different geographical locations to study and take part in the training without having to travel and spend many days attending a traditional training course. Online distance learning also provides flexibility in time. During the online period the trainer is coaching, supporting and encouraging the learners, as well as providing feedback on completed exercises and assignments.

Pick and choose

The EAC provides a comprehensive system of both knowledge and skills training courses from which the user can pick and choose any part depending on the specific needs – of a certain officer, at a certain level or for a certain topic.

Train the Trainer

To get multiple effect of EAC training, a system of training national trainers is used. This means that staffs are trained for a future role as local or national trainer. These trainers are trained both in the module specific subjects and in didactics. A “trainer’s manual” is developed for each module to support and guide the trainers during the online as well as the face-to-face parts of the course.
